SFA AHEAD IN WAC RESUME SEEDING RANKING
In the latest WAC Resume Seeding System ranking on Mar. 1, Stephen F. Austin remained at the top of the conference seeding with a 24-5 overall record and 14-3 mark in WAC play to post 6.50 points. Other teams with positive point values include Southern Utah (19-9; 15-2 WAC; 3.90 points), Grand Canyon (20-8; 12-5 WAC; 2.08 points) and California Baptist (16-12; 12-5 WAC; 0.86 points).
SOUTHERN UTAH TOPS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
Southern Utah topped California Baptist by a score of 83-75 led by Tomekia Whitman with her season high of 25 points. Lizzy Williamson finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks. With the win over CBU, the Thunderbirds have clinched at least a share of the WAC regular season title.
SFA TO FACE UTA IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Stephen F. Austin is scheduled to close out the regular season on the road against UT Arlington. If the LadyJacks win against UTA they will claim a share of the WAC regular season title with Southern Utah. SFA will also be the number one seed in the upcoming conference tournament according to the WAC resume seeding rankings.
GCU CLOSES REGULAR SEASON IN UTAH
Grand Canyon is set to complete its final road trip of the season against Southern Utah. The Lopes topped Utah Tech last week by a score of 70-63 and were led by Tiarra Brown with 18 points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Grand Canyon currently sits in the third spot of the WAC resume seeding system with 2.08 points.
UTRGV ON THREE-GAME WINNING STREAK
UTrgv has won its last three contests against Tarleton (Feb. 22), Sam Houston (Feb. 25) and Utah Valley (Feb. 28). The Vaqueros have won its last three contests by an average of 7.33 points. UTRGV is set to close out the regular season against California Baptist on the road on Thursday, March 2.
THE WAC IN NATIONAL STATS RANKINGS
In the latest NCAA DI national statistics rankings that were released on Feb. 28, Grand Canyon is 4th in steals per game at 13.0 and is now 37th in turnover margin (4.07) along with being 9th in turnovers forced per game (21.32). Sam Houston is now 4th in offensive rebounds per game at 16.9. California Baptist remains 4th in three-point field goals per game with 28.5 followed by Abilene Christian in the 19th spot with 25.5 and UTRGV ranked 30th at 25.0. Southern Utah is now ranked 19th in total rebounds per game with 42.14 and California Baptist is ranked 29th at 41.25 followed by Sam Houston at 35th with 41.04.
