TicketSmarter WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced
Arlington, Texas – Sam Houston’s Brailey Wasik and Abilene Christian’s Talia Nielsen have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Mar. 26.
Wasik, a sophomore pitcher from Burleson, Texas, batted .545 with six runs, five RBIs, three doubles and three home runs to help the Bearkats go 3-1 with a series sweep over Utah Valley. During game one of the UVU series, Wasik was 3-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and a home run. In games two and three Wasik was 3-5 with four runs scored, three RBIs, a double and two home runs.
Nielsen, a junior from Bakersfield, California, went 2-0 versus the Thunderbirds with two complete games, 14.0 innings and eight strikeouts. Neilsen limited SUU to a .160 batting average as her ERA was an equally stellar 1.50. Saturday, Nielsen took a perfect game into the fifth inning and a no-hitter/shutout into the seventh as she used only 72 pitches. On Sunday, Nielsen forced SUU to leave seven runners on base, including five in scoring position.
