TicketSmarter WAC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Joel Bengtsson, UTRGV’s Jedidiah Udunna, NM State’s Jhana Downie and Stephen F. Austin’s Michelle Ogbemudia have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, March 26.
Bengtsson, a senior, claimed victory in the men’s 110-meter hurdles during the Clyde Hart Classic on March 24-25. Bengtsson crossed the line in 13.79 in section three to post the second-fastest time of the season in the WAC and the number 13 time in NCAA Division I as of March 29.
Udunna, a freshman, finished second in the men’s long jump at the Charles Austin Classic on March 24-25, covering 7.80m (25-7.25) in the final round to cruise into the runner-up spot. Udunna was the WAC leader in the event and ranked fifth in the nation as of March 29.
Downie, a junior, was the winner of the women’s 400-meter dash at the Willie Williams Classic on March 24-25. Downie clocked in a section one time of 52.93 to rank first in the WAC and seventh in the NCAA as of March 29.
Ogbemudia, a sophomore, secured the women’s shot put title at the Clyde Hart Classic on March 24-25. Ogbemudia topped her fifth round throw with an effort of 15.82m (51-11.0) to close the competition, the top mark in the WAC and the 26th-ranked throw nationally as of March 29.
