TicketSmarter WAC Baseball Players Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s Brandon Pimentel and California Baptist’s Liam Rocha have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, April 9.
Pimentel, a graduate outfielder and first baseman, was a run-generating machine for UTRGV in a 2-1 nonconference week, batting .438 with a 1.063 slugging percentage and a conference-high 11 RBI, adding three home runs and six runs scored on the week. Pimentel has homered in five consecutive games overall for the Vaqueros, hitting a grand slam against Corpus Christi on April 4, a two-run blast to go along with four RBI and three runs in a game one win against Houston Christian on April 8 before blasting a three-run homer later in the day against the Huskies on April 8.
Rocha, a junior right-hander, put forth one of the best conference starts of the season in an 8-5 CBU win at NM State on April 7, going a full eight shutout innings and scattering just two hits for the Lancers in the victory. Rocha walked one and struck out seven Aggie batters on 108 pitches to improve to 4-0 on the season.
