TicketSmarter WAC Tennis Women’s and Men’s Athletes of the Week Announced

Arlington, Texas – Tarleton’s women’s singles player Elsa Boisson and Grand Canyon’s women’s doubles team Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Week. Abilene Christian’s men’s singles playerDario Kmet and UT Arlington’s men’s doubles teamAnton Shepp and Solano Caffarena have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the competition week ending on Apr. 11. 

Boisson, a junior from Fontenay-le-Comte, France, went 2-0 at the No. 3 position in Tarleton’s 2-0 week this past week with wins over Grand Canyon and NM State. Boisson defeated the Lopes’ Dania Deaifi 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday, then beat the Aggies’ Valeriia Ivanovskaia 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 on Saturday. The Texans are now 13-6 overall and 5-2 in WAC play, second in the WAC standings. Boisson owns the best singles record on the team at 13-4 and is 6-1 against WAC opponents in singles play. 

Puehse, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., and Strombacha, a junior from Berlin, Germany, defeated Tarleton’s Martha Makantasi and Elsa Boisson in the No. 1 position 6-3, 6-3 on April 6th. The duo went on to defeat Abilene Christian’s Masha Vrsalovic and Olivia Sears in the No. 1 position 6-3. Puehse and Strombacha improved to 14-4 and 6-1 as a team. 

Kmet, a junior from Sydney, Australia remained undefeated in WAC No. 1 singles with victories this past week. Kmet secured wins over UT Arlington’s Anton Shepp (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) and UTRGV’s Emilien Burnel (6-3, 6-2).  

Shepp, a sophomore from Hamilton, New Zealand, and Caffarena, a junior from Santa Fe, Argentina, hold a 11-3 record as the primary No. 1 doubles team for the Mavericks. They remain undefeated in WAC play with wins over UTRGV, Abilene Christian and NM State. In their most recent match against NMSU, the duo defeated Yehor Opanasenko and Jordy Visser by a score of 6-2.
