TicketSmarter WAC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Khalid Mendez, Utah Valley’s Aaron Johnson and Everlyn Kemboi and Stephen F. Austin’s Angel Richmore have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, April 16.
Mendez, a sophomore, was the second collegiate runner across the line and the third overall finisher in the men’s 200-meter dash at the Sooner Invitational on April 14-15. Mendez registered a time of 20.83 to rank second in the WAC as of April 19.
Johnson, a redshirt senior, captured the men’s long jump championship while competing at the Pacific Coast Invitational on April 13. Johnson logged a fourth-round jump of 7.92m (26-0) to post the best conference mark of the season and rank 12th in the nation as of April 19.
Kemboi, a senior, continued a solid season with a sensational women’s 5K showing at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13. Kemboi clocked the fastest time in the distance nationally this season as of April 19 by taking the event win with a time of 15:20.67.
Richmore, a sophomore, scored 5,691 points in the women’s heptathlon to win the event at the Carl Knight Invitational on April 13-15. Richmore, who won the high jump (1.79m/5-10.5), shot put (14.03m/46-0.5), long jump (5.73m/18-9.75) and javelin (41.68m/136-9.0), owns the best heptathlon score in the WAC and ranked eighth in the NCAA as of April 19.
