TicketSmarter WAC Tennis Women’s and Men’s Athletes of the Week Announced
Arlington, Texas – UT Arlington’s women’s singles player Liz Chileno and women’s doubles team Liz Chileno and Sarina Reinertsen have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Week. Abilene Christian’s men’s singles player Dario Kmet and UT Arlington’s men’s doubles team Santiago Giamichelle and Dante Teramo have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the competition week ending on Apr. 20.
Chileno, a senior from Ciudad del Este, Paraguay has been the primary No. 1 player for the Mavericks, going 12-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Chileno has won three consecutive matches in straight sets to finish off the regular season with wins over North Texas, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. In her most recent match, the senior took down Alkmini Giannakogiorgou 7-5, 6-3 on UTA’s senior day celebration to help secure a regular season conference title for the third year in a row.
Chileno, a senior from Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, and Reinertsen, a sophomore from Oslo, Norway has contributed heavily to the Maverick’s doubles success, going 13-3 overall and 7-0 in WAC matches on Court 2. The duo defeated Sam Houston’s Vianne Schwab and Linn Svaerd 6-1. In their most recent win, they defeated Stephen F. Austin 6-4, coming back after being down 4-1 to help the team secure the regular season title.
Kmet, a junior from Sydney, Australia completed a perfect WAC season with a win over NM State’s Cory Clark (6-2, 7-5). Kmet finished the season 10-6 and 5-0 against WAC opponents.
Giamichelle, a freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Teramo, a freshman from Rio Cuarto, Argentina, has been key to the Maverick’s doubles success. The Mavs went undefeated in conference doubles points and the pair holds an 11-5 overall record, going 4-1 in WAC matches. Most recently they defeated Seattle U’s Michael Frank and Julian Worn 7-6 (1).
