TicketSmarter WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced
Arlington, Texas – Utah Valley’s Megan Gibbs and Utah Tech’s Sauren Garton have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Apr. 23.
Gibbs, a redshirt sophomore infielder from Lilburn, Georgia, batted .625 for the weekend including eight RBIs and three home runs against Southern Utah. Gibbs closed the weekend accounting for a home run in each game of the series.
Garton, a freshman from Pendleton, Oregon, went 1-0 in two relief appearances and fired 9.1 innings of softball, allowing one unearned run, eight hits and struck out 11 with no walks. Garton came on in game one vs. CBU and threw three shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Then in Saturday’s finale, Garton came out of the bullpen to put out the fire in the first inning, then went on to strike out five and limited CBU to just one unearned run and six hits the rest of the game.
