SAM HOUSTON KEEPS CONSISTENT WAC PLAY ROLLING

Sam Houston remained in the top spot in the WAC standings with another series victory, taking two of three games from NM State last weekend. The Bearkats extended their record in conference games to 10-2 (.833) heading into Easter weekend. Abilene Christian (7-2, .778), Grand Canyon (8-4, .667), California Baptist (7-5, .583) and Stephen F. Austin (7-5, .583) rounded out the current top five in the league entering games on April 6.
 

FIVE STRAIGHT LEAGUE WINS FOR UTRGV

UTRGV pulled its conference record to an even .500 at 6-6 with five consecutive wins in WAC games, sweeping Tarleton at home in its most recent series. The Vaqueros have won four straight games overall, with two of the victories ending in seven innings.
 

BUSH MAKES AN IMPACT AT THE TOP FOR GCU

Emerging as the regular leadoff hitter at the top of the Grand Canyon lineup, Homer Bush Jr. continued his momentum by capturing WAC Hitter of the Week honors on April 3. Bush batted .600 over four starts last week, reaching base at a .714 clip while scoring eight runs for the Lopes.
 

FIVE WAC PLAYERS STILL HITTING ABOVE THE .400 PLATEAU

Entering games on April 6, five different WAC hitters held season batting averages of .400 or better thus far in the 2023 season. Tyler Davis from Sam Houston was the league leader hitting .472, followed immediately by GCU’s Jacob Wilson at .465. Sacramento State’s Gunner Gouldsmith checked in at .438, Homer Bush Jr. from GCU sat at .429 and Sam Houston’s Joe Redfield was at .402.
 

THE WAC IN THE NCAA STATISTICS RANKINGS

In the NCAA DI baseball statistics rankings that were released on April 3, Abilene Christian was fourth in the nation with a .986 team fielding percentage. Individually, Sacramento State’s Jack Zalasky was second in saves (7), UTRGV’s Kade York was second in sacrifice bunts (8) and Sam Houston’s Tyler Davis was second in batting average (.472). GCU’s Jacob Wilson was third in average (.465) and Utah Valley’s Luke Iverson was third in triples (5).
