GCU Headed To The 2023 NCAA Softball Los Angeles Regional

ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon, the winner of the 2023 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament, officially received the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Softball Championship on Sunday night.

The Lopes (46-11) were one of four teams to qualify for the NCAA Los Angeles Regional and will collide with No. 2 national seed UCLA to begin its NCAA tournament schedule on May 19. No. 2 regional seed Liberty and No. 3 regional seed San Diego State will also compete at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.

GCU is set to make its second appearance at NCAA Regionals after defending its title in the WAC tournament final with an emphatic 10-2 run-rule victory over Seattle U on May 13. The Lopes also traveled to Los Angeles in the 2022 national tournament as the WAC’s automatic qualifier.

Since 1991 WAC programs have won a combined 100 games in the NCAA Championship. Utah (1991, 1994), CSUN (1993, 1994), Fresno State (1994, 1997, 1998 National Champion, 1999) and Hawai’I (2010) ultimately reached the NCAA Women’s College World Series while representing the conference.
