Grand Canyon Three-Peats as WAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Champions
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Grand Canyon won their third straight WAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field championship on Saturday night, scoring 162.5 points. Lopes Junior Oscar Rodriguez won the discus throw and was named WAC Outstanding Field Performer of the Year. GCU’s Kyle De Moica was the 100 meter champion and Erin Brown was best in the 400 meter dash. The Lopes also won the 4 x 100 relay.
“These teams are really tough to beat. It was a total team effort. Throwers scored 42 points on their end, sprint group 50 plus, between the 100, 200, 400 and 800, relays did really well,” said GCU Head Coach Tom Flood who was also named WAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

RECORD BREAKER
Joel Bengtsson of UT Arlington won the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 13.64 setting new WAC record. The old mark was held by Robert Foster of Fresno State with 13.72 set in 1994. Abilene Christian’s Jamal January also beat the old record with a time of 13.66
