Nine Players From WAC Softball Earn NFCA All-Region Honors
ARLINGTON, Texas – A total of nine players representing softball members of the WAC were named to 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Region Teams on Thursday.
To be considered for all-region awards, student-athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coaches and are selected based on voting from other head coaches in their institution’s assigned NFCA region. All-region selections are also eligible for NFCA All-America consideration, as decided by the All-America awards committee on the eve of the Women’s College World Series.
Grand Canyon’s Kristin Fifield led all WAC all-region selections as an outfielder on the West Region First Team, with teammates Katelyn Dunckel (shortstop) and Hannah Burnett (outfielder) landing on the West Region Third Team. Utah Tech shortstop Lauren Almeida and outfielder Shea Clements were tabbed to the West Region Second Team, while pitcher Kate Dolinski and outfielder Tanya Windle represented the Trailblazers on the West Region Third Team. Rounding out the WAC selections on the Pacific Region Third Team were NM State first baseman Kayla Bowen and Seattle U outfielder Olivia Viggiano.
