TicketSmarter WAC Baseball Players Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s Brandon Pimentel and Grand Canyon’s Carter Young have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, May 20.
Pimentel, a graduate first baseman, batted an amazing .857 with five home runs, 15 RBI, a 2.000 slugging percentage and 10 runs in four starts last week for 3-1 UTRGV. Pimentel had three hits and two RBI at Lamar on May 16, three home runs, five RBI and four runs in the series opener at Stephen F. Austin on May 18, three hits, four RBI and three runs scored in game two at SFA on May 19 and three hits, four RBI and a pair of runs in the series finale on May 20.
Young, a junior right-hander, made his most effective start of the season in the series finale against California Baptist on May 20 that clinched a regular-season championship and top seed for GCU. Young went seven full innings and scattered five hits, one run and two walks while inducing 11 groundball outs for the Lopes in an 8-1 victory over CBU.
