Stephen F. Austin's Ellis, Utah Valley's Kemboi Named 2023 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Year

ARLINGTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Branson Ellis and Utah Valley’s Everlyn Kemboi were named the 2023 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year on Tuesday.

Ellis, a senior pole vaulter, set a conference record with a top clearance of 5.86m (19-2.75) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on March 29. Ellis added a 5.56m (18-2.75) showing to win the East Texas Invitational on April 14-15, a matching 5.56m (18-2.75) in victory at the Oregon Twilight on May 5 and a 5.49m (18-0) to capture a win at the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Kemboi, a senior distance runner, re-wrote the WAC record book in the 5000-meter (15:20.67) at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13-15 and the 10,000-meter (32:03.30) at the Stanford Invitational on March 31-April 1 during the season. Kemboi secured event wins in the 5000-meter event with a time of 15:45.85 and the 10,000-meter with a 34:12.36 showing at the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
