AJ Ciampini and Utah Tech’s
Stockton Short have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Aug. 28.
Iniguez, a sophomore midfielder, was tied for the conference scoring lead with four points after tallying a goal and two assists during the season’s opening weekend. Iniguez provided the primary assist on the tying goal at 83:52 of a 1-1 draw with CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 24. Iniguez tallied his first goal of the year at 7:26 and added the primary assist at 67:48 on the winning goal of San José State’s 2-1 win at UC San Diego on Aug. 26.
Ciampini, a sophomore defender, played all 165 minutes on a Utah Tech defense that allowed only two goals and a total of 10 shots on goal over two matches during the opening weekend. The Trailblazers surrendered just three shots on frame and scored the final two goals of a comeback 2-1 victory at Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Aug. 27.
Short, a sophomore goalkeeper, was the conference leader with a 1.00 goals against average and a .800 save percentage for the season’s first week, ranking fourth in the WAC with eight total saves over two matches. Short made six saves during a hard-luck 1-0 loss at San Francisco on Aug. 24 and added two saves, including a key second half stop, in a 2-1 victory at Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Aug. 27.
