ABILENE CHRISTIAN REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH 4 GAME SHUTOUT STREAK
Abilene Christian is the only WAC school to remain undefeated going into week three, after tying UTEP 0-0 and defeating Nicholls 4-0. The Wildcats have secured the program’s best start in its Division 1 era. ACU continues to break program records with the most consecutive shutout games with four.
GOURLEY WITH THE HAT TRICK
Grand Canyon senior forward Gianna Gourley earned WAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the WAC with four goals on six shots, including her third career hat trick against CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 27. Gourley also scored the sole goal in the 63rd minute of a 1-1 draw at Arizona on Aug. 24.
STEPHENS ANCHORED ACU DEFENSE
Macie Stephens and the Abilene Christian defense only allowed an impressive four shots on goal on the week. Stephens anchored the ACU defense to help the Wildcats continue its shutout streak, which earned her WAC Defensive Player of the Week for week two.
JACKSON WAC WEEK TWO SAVES LEADER
Grand Canyon’s DeAira Jackson had a conference-high 12 saves during week two of play. Jackson made a season-high seven saves against Arizona and added an additional five saves against CSU Bakersfield.
FOUR TEAMS END THE WEEK WITH SHUTOUT WINS
Along with Abilene Christian’s two shutouts against UTEP and Nicholls, Utah Valley had a strong performance against Idaho State winning 6-0. Grand Canyon recorded a dominant 5-0 win over CSU Bakersfield, while Tarleton State won against Nicholls 3-0.
ACTION PACKED WEEK AHEAD
WAC schools have a stacked weekend ahead as Utah Valley takes on Utah on Aug. 30. UTRGRV travels to No. 18 Texas on Aug. 31. Utah Valley hosts No. 7 BYU on Sept. 2. Abilene Christian takes a trip to Texas Tech, while Grand Canyon takes on Oregon at home on Sept. 3.
