ARLINGTON, Texas – Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Associate Commissioner for Basketball Drew Speraw was recently named as one of five new additions to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee.

Currently comprised of 12 voting members across Division I, FBS and FCS, the NCAA Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee works to ensure that the appropriate oversight for the sport of women’s basketball is maintained across the country. Along with enhancing the development of and public perception of the sport, along with prioritizing the student-athlete experience, the committee supervises the qualifications and selection procedures for the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

Speraw is entering his second full basketball season at the WAC after joining the conference in February of 2022. In his role Speraw is the primary conference administrator for both men’s and women’s basketball and is the direct conduit to coaches and other team administrators in the sport. Speraw also serves as the conference’s liaison to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee and as one of the tournament managers of the annual Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas.

Speraw, along with WAC Commissioner Brian Thornton and Ken Pomeroy from KenPom, developed the innovative WAC Résumé Seeding System prior to the 2022-23 basketball season. The first of its kind metric across all conferences in Division I, the WAC Résumé Seeding System utilizes a formula-based approach based on full season performance to determine the final seeds for the annual men’s and women’s WAC Basketball Tournament.

Prior to the WAC, Speraw spent 10 seasons as the director of men’s basketball operations at Kansas State University. Speraw was a basketball letterwinner at the University of Central Florida from 2005-10, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance (2009) and a master’s in sports and fitness (2010) from UCF and a second master's in business administration from the University of Iowa (2012).
