2023 WAC WSOC Release Week 5

FAITH WEBBER LEADS UTAH VALLEY TO VICTORY AGAINST NO. 19 USC
 
Utah Valley knocked off No. 19 USC in a 3-2 win due to WAC Offensive Player of the Week Faith Webber’s hat trick. It was Webber’s second hat trick and the third time in program history the Wolverines secured a win over a top 25 team. ‘It is the second straight season Utah Valley defeated a top-25 team on the road. 

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST CLIMBS ATOP OF WAC LEADERBOARD 
Sitting in third place last week, the Lancers climbed their way to first place in the WAC standings over the weekend after back-to-back wins against Oregon State and Fresno State. California Baptist looks to continue the winning streak as it stays in-state this week, taking on San Jose State and Sacramento State. 

MARCELLA BROOKS AND NOA SCHUMACHER DYNAMIC DUO FOR CALIFORNIA BAPTIST 
California Baptist’s first major conference win in program history over Oregon was done by a dominate 1-0 shutout. Marcella Brooks secured the Lancers lone goal, as Noa Schumacher made a tremendous penalty kick save in the 88th minute to earn her third shutout of the season. Against Fresno State, Brooks added another goal to her total, while Schumacher had four saves and allowed one goal. 

SEATTLE U DOESN’T MISS ON PENALTY KICKS  
Seattle U is currently 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this season. No other WAC school has three attempts and no more than two goals scored on penalty kicks. 

SHOUTOUT TO CALIFORNIA BAPTIST’S SCHUMACHER AND GRAND CANYON’S JACKSON 
California Baptist and Grand Canyon are the only WAC schools with less than 10 goals allowed with four a piece. Both teams currently obtain a goal differential of +12. 

TOP 25 TEAMS ON TAP FOR WEEK 5 
A variety of WAC schools prepare to take on top 25 teams this weekend. Seattle U travels to No. 24 Washington State on Sept. 14. On Sept. 17, Grand Canyon takes on No. 11 Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin will face off against TCU, who are receiving votes. Other big games include Utah Valley at California on Sept. 15 and Abilene Christian at Oklahoma State on Sept. 17.
