2023 WAC WSOC Release Week 4

GRAND CANYON BEATS OREGON 

Grand Canyon dominated Oregon in a 1-0 win to earn the Lopes their fourth consecutive GCU Stadium win. Senior midfielder Magdalena Schwarz scored the goal in the 35th minute. 

ABILENE CHRISTIAN’S CHAYSE THORN ON FIRE
Abilene Christian’s junior forward Chayse Thorn is tied for first in the WAC and fourth in the nation for total goals with seven. Thorn added three more goals to her total this weekend after producing a hat trick in a 5-0 shutout win against Texas Permian Basin. 

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST EARN CONFERENCE TEAM HIGHS 
California Baptist earned conference team highs in three categories in the Lancers first shutout of the season against UTEP in a 6-0 win. CBU’s totals in goals (6), assists (8) and points (20) were a single game in the conference this season. 

GOURLEY, JACKSON AND PIRRO DOMINATE RANKINGS 
Grand Canyon is home to some of the nation’s best, as WAC Goalkeeper of the Week DeAira Jackson is tied for second in the NCAA in shutouts with four. Senior forward Gianna Gourley is tied for fourth in total goals with seven, while junior midfielder Leah Pirro is tied for third in total assists with six. 

UTAH TECH’S BRIANNA FEY SET RECORDS WITH SAVES
Brianna Frey had a career-high 12 saves with eight saves in the first half alone against Gonzaga on Sept. 3. Frey took sole possession of the second-highest total saves in a single game in program history. 

MAJOR CONFERENCE TEAMS ON THE DOCKET  
Action packed week ahead for WAC teams as Utah Valley travels to USC, CBU takes on Oregon and Stephen F. Austin plays against Texas on Sept. 7. On Sept. 10, Seattle U hosts Washington and Abilene Christian gears up for Baylor.
