ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s Emilien Burnel and Abilene Christian’s Dario Kmet and Daniel Morozov have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the week ending on Monday, Jan. 22.
 
Burnel (Sr.) led the Vaqueros to a 2-1 weekend by going 3-0 in the No. 1 singles spot. On Friday, the senior captain led his team to victory against Lamar with an exciting come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win against Max Amling that clinched UTRGV’s first triumph against the Cardinals since 2020. On Saturday, Burnel notched another hard-earned comeback win 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Incarnate Word’s Tomas Reche followed by a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win against St. Mary’s Oskar Irdoja which contributed to a 6-1 victory against the Rattlers.
 
Kmet (Sr.) and Morozov (Jr.) played a big role in ACU’s upset win over Texas Tech. The pair won the No. 1 doubles match, defeating Reed Collier/Jonas Gundacker 6-4. Along with his doubles win, Morozov took down No. 71 Ollie Wallin at No. 1 singles 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) which gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead at the time.
