2023-24 WAC Women's Basketball Release - Week Nine
CBU, GCU, SFA UNDEFEATED IN WAC PLAY
During the first week of conference play in November and December of the 2023-24 campaign, California Baptist, Grand Canyon and Stephen F. Austin posted perfect 2-0 records in WAC games to be undefeated in league play. Five teams, Abilene Christian, Seattle U, Southern Utah, Tarleton State and Utah Tech recorded 1-1 marks during opening week of WAC play.
NEW YEAR, NEW CONFERENCE GAMES!
WAC squads are back in action as conference play resumes on Thursday, Jan. 4. to restart WAC play for the second time this 2023-24 season, California Baptist hosts Utah Valley, Tarleton State travels to UT Arlington, Southern Utah plays against Grand Canyon, UTRGV on the road to Stephen F. Austin and Seattle U goes head-to-head with Utah Tech.

Faith Acker had a record setting night as she recorded her first career double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds in the Texans 52-40 road win against Texas Southern. She is the first Texan freshman to achieve a double-double since Ikpeaku Iwobi notched two in her true freshman season of 2013-14. Acker is the first Texan freshman to post a 20-10 game in at least the last 10 years. She is the third Texan in their D1 era to post a 20-10 game (Teresa Da Silva in 2022-23, Marissa Escamilla in 2020-21). Acker is also the first Texan to finish with at least 23 points and 12 rebounds since Mackenzie Hailey (March 9, 2019, at Angelo State).
HACKING AWAY
UTRGV’s junior guard/forward
Kade Hackerott helped the Vaqueros secure their first win of the season after they defeated Sam Houston 66-58 on Dec. 30. Hackerott recorded her second double-double of the season as she scored a career-high 19 points with a career-high 13 rebounds. Hackerott went 6-of-9 from the floor while going 6-of-8 from the free-throw line with a block and a steal.
GCU CONTINUES TO DISTRIBUTE THE BALL WELL
Grand Canyon’s 10-3 record is highlighted by the Lopes well-balanced offense. In the Lopes last four wins, they had three or more players recording double-digit performances.
Trinity San Antonio,
Naudia Evans and
Tiarra Brown are averaging over 10 points per game, with San Antonio leading the team with 11.9 ppg, Evans averaging 10.8 and Brown recording 10.2 ppg.
KNOCKING DOWN 3’S IS EASY FOR UTAH TECH
Utah Tech currently leads the WAC in 3-point percentage with 37.0, this mark also tied 37th in the latest NCAA D1 national statistics that were released on Jan. 1. Redshirt sophomore guard
Macie Warren ranked 15th in the nation in 3-point percentage with 47.5, while
Maggie McCord ranked 49th (42.4).
Maddie Warren was tied for 33rd in 3-pointers made with 35, shooting 39.3 percent. The Trailblazers have recorded 145 3-pointers so far this season, knocking down a season-high 21 threes in the win over Oregon which marked the second-most in a single game in program history.
