ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Emma Persson, Martha Makantasi, and Maretha Burger have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the week ending on Monday, Jan. 29.
 
Persson (So.) collects this week’s Women’s Singles Player of the Week after going 2-0 in the #1 Singles spot, helping the Texans defeat UTEP and New Mexico State. The reigning WAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year had a dominant comeback win against UTEP’s Carlotta Mencaglia, taking the second and third set of the match 6-3, 6-0 after falling in the first set 3-6. Persson then defeated New Mexico State’s Anna Pinaieva in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
 
Makantasi (Sr.) and Burger (Jr.) are awarded the Women’s Doubles Players of the Week for controlling the #1 Doubles court against UTEP and New Mexico State, helping Tarleton State start off the season 2-0. The duo bested UTEP’s Elena Dibattista/Suzanna Szczepanska 6-1 and defeated New Mexico State’s Natsuki Nishimura/Anna Pinaieva 6-2.
