TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas –Grand Canyon’s Neysia Howard and Onome Ogbeni have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 28.
 
Howard (Sr.) collects her second Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award for her performances in the 200m and 60m this past weekend at the New Mexico Team Open. Howard competed in the 200m where she timed in at 23.68 (converted from 23.61 for altitude), ranking first in the WAC by nearly a full second and checking in at 42nd nationally. Howard also ran a 7.50 60m (converted from 7.48), putting her third in the WAC.
 
Ogbeni (Sr.) dominated the events she competed in by taking home the gold in the shot put and weight throw at the New Mexico Team Open, as she now leads the WAC in both events. Ogbeni won the shot put with a mark of 15.71m (51-6.50), topping the conference leaderboard by more than a whole meter and ranking 46th in the country. Ogbeni’s weight throw of 19.89m (65-3.25) bested the second-place finisher also by a whole meter and puts her 39th nationally.
