2024 WAC VB Release Week 8
UT ARLINGTON SWEEPS THE WEEKEND, EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO SEVEN
UT Arlington continued its winning ways and brought out the brooms this week against Seattle U and Abilene Christian. The Mavs extended their winning streak to seven matches and won their last 10 consecutive sets. UTA continues to lead the statistical charts in conference play as Paige Reagor leads the WAC in hitting percentage (49.5 %), Mollie Blank holds the most assists per set (11.64), and Brianna Ford leads in kills per set (4.77) and points per set (5.77). UT Arlington is ranked 81st in the latest RPI rankings.
FIVE-IN-A-ROW FOR GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon took sole possession of second in the WAC standings after winning both road matches on the week and stretching its win streak to five. The Lopes traveled to and took down tough competition in Utah Tech 3-1 and Southern Utah 3-2. Tatum Parrott recorded 39 kills (4.33/set) and 5.5 points per set on the week, along with 23 digs, eight aces, and four blocks.
UTAH VALLEY’S TWO-WIN WEEK
Utah Valley made its way back to .500 in conference play after collecting wins against Tarleton State 3-2 and Seattle U 3-0. This week’s WAC Setter of the Week, Evalyn Chism, played a big role for the Wolverines this week both offensively and defensively as she recorded 82 assists (10.25/set) and tallied 11 kills and 28 digs. Bella Wooden holds fourth in the nation in blocks per set (1.59) after totaling 13 on the week.
REACHING CAREER MILESTONES
Last week the WAC saw its two leaders in assists reach career milestones. UTA graduate student Mollie Blank joined the 3,000 career assists club after recording 42 assists in the Mavs’ sweep over Seattle U. UVU’s sophomore Evalyn Chism hit 1,000 career assists after tallying 44 assists in the Wolverines’ victory against Tarleton State.
BIG WEEK ON DECK FOR THE LOPES
Grand Canyon arguably has its toughest week of the season on deck as they take on the WAC standings leader UT Arlington, host Tarleton State, and travel to #13 Arizona State for a non-conference in-state rivalry match. The Lopes look for redemption against the Mavericks as they lost the WAC opener against UT Arlington 3-1 without their kills leader Tatum Parrott. The Sun Devils are 17-2 this year with 12 of their wins being sweeps.
