2024 WAC VB Release Week 10

UT ARLINGTON CLINCHES THE FIRST TOURNAMENT SPOT
UT Arlington captured the first spot in the 2024 WAC Volleyball Tournament that will take place on its home court on Nov. 21-23 with two wins last week. The Mavericks extended their winning streak to 11 matches and remains undefeated in conference play at 10-0. The Mavs were on a roll with six straight sweeps before pulling off the reverse sweep over Utah Valley to keep their winning streak alive.
 
UTAH TECH SWEEPS THE WEEK
Utah Tech took two road wins last week with sweeps against Abilene Christian and Tarleton State to jump up to second in the conference standings. The Trailblazers are riding a three-game winning streak and improved to eight sweeps this season. A strong week for Kennedi Knudsen received her first WAC Player of the Week honor as she totaled 31 kills in six sets and accumulated a .400 hitting percentage in the sweep against ACU.
 
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST CLAIMS TWO ON THE WEEK
California Baptist captured its first two-win week of the season with a win over Southern Utah and a sweep against Seattle U. Eliana Posada had a career night against SUU as she set career highs in points (22.5), kills (17), blocks (5), and solo blocks (3). In the match versus SU, Madison Gilliland posted a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage by going 9-for-9 and led the team with seven total blocks.
 
WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The WAC has been making some noise in the national rankings as multiple players are highly ranked in their respective statistics. UVU’s Bella Wooden ranks second in the country in blocks per set (1.63) with UTA’s Paige Reagor at 13th (1.45). UTA teammates Brianna Ford is 10th in points per set (5.39) and Mollie Blank is 15th in assists per set (10.67). GCU’s Tatum Parrott is 10th in attacks per set (11.99).
 
CAREER MILESTONES REACHED
Last week the WAC saw four players reach a new milestone in their careers. UVU’s Avery Shewell reached 1,000 points and 100 aces, CBU’s Amanda Darling notched her 1,000th dig with her Lancer teammate Reese Reed hitting 1,000 assists, and TSU’s Megan Hodges reached 2,000 assists.
 
POSSIBLE CLINCHES FOR THIS WEEK
Seven spots remain open for the WAC Volleyball Tournament and three teams have an opportunity to clinch a spot this week. Here’s what needs to happen for these teams to lock up their spot:
- Utah Tech: win one match
- Grand Canyon: one win & one TSU loss OR beat TSU on Saturday
- Utah Valley: two wins and at least one TSU loss
