ARLINGTON, Texas – San Jose State’s Angel Iniguez, San Diego State’s Beto Apolinar and Grand Canyon’s Leon Schmidt have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Oct. 7.

Iniguez, a junior midfielder, repeated as the conference offensive player of the week after a huge showing in a league road swing that included five goals and 11 total points. Iniguez registered the first WAC hat trick of the 2024 season, scoring goals at 40:49, 71:10 and 73:35 in a 3-0 victory for San Jose State at Air Force on Oct. 3. Iniguez continued the momentum in a 3-2 comeback win at Utah Valley on Oct. 5, scoring the tying goals at 29:23 and 33:55 before assisting on the match winner at 43:41 for the Spartans.

Apolinar, a junior holding midfielder, helped key a strong defensive effort for San Diego State in a 2-0 conference start on the road. The Aztecs shut out UNLV 1-0 on Oct. 3 after limiting the Rebels to seven total shots and just one on goal in the first half. San Diego State was equally as impressive in a 1-0 win at Utah Tech on Oct. 6, limiting the Trailblazers to just two shots on frame over the first 45 minutes.

Schmidt, a senior goalkeeper, registered his third shutout of the season during a 2-0 GCU win at UTRGV on Oct. 6. Schmidt was credited with two saves in the clean sheet on the way to earning his fourth victory of the season.
