ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday the promotion of Rebekah Ray to the position of deputy commissioner and senior woman administrator (SWA) and Drew Speraw to the position of senior associate commissioner for basketball and conference services. Both promotions are effective immediately.

As deputy commissioner, Ray is the WAC’s primary administrator to its Sport Management Committee and is the staff liaison to the WAC Board of Directors. Along with a focus on conference governance processes and the operational procedures of the membership, Ray serves as co-tournament director of the annual WAC Basketball Tournament.

Ray originally joined the WAC staff in August of 2022 as the senior associate commissioner, sport administration and championships, along with being the conference SWA. Ray’s additional responsibilities include oversight over all WAC Championships and serving as the primary conference administrator for a variety of WAC-sponsored sports.

Ray arrived at the WAC after spending the previous eight years at Seattle University, where she was the associate athletic director for facilities and operations and SWA. Ray oversaw all internal operations including department communication, capital projects, equipment, game operations and facility maintenance, as well as game scheduling. While at Seattle U, Ray also represented the university on the WAC Medical Advisory Committee and Sport Management Committee.

As senior associate commissioner, Speraw continues in his role as the primary administrator for both men’s and women’s basketball in the WAC. Speraw oversees all conference scheduling and operational functions within the sport and serves as co-tournament director of the annual WAC Basketball Tournament. Speraw is also the primary conference sport administrator for men’s golf.

The WAC has continued its growth into one of the premier mid major conferences in NCAA Division I since Speraw’s arrival in February of 2022, rising to a peak of 11th in the Kenpom.com ranking of DI men's basketball conferences at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. Speraw was named to the NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee in August of 2023, with the committee working to ensure that appropriate national oversight in the sport is maintained and supervising the qualification and selection procedures for the NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Speraw joined the WAC staff after nearly 10 seasons as director of men's basketball operations at Kansas State University under head coach Bruce Weber. The Wildcats captured the 2013 and 2019 Big 12 regular-season championships and made five NCAA Tournament appearances during Speraw’s tenure, reaching the NCAA Elite Eight in 2017-18.
