UVU Women, CBU Men Defend Team Titles At 2024 WAC Cross Country Championships

– Host team Utah Valley defended its women’s 6K championship and California Baptist captured a fifth straight men’s 8K title during the 2024 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at Lakeside Park.

Utah Valley became the second women’s team in WAC history to score the minimum 15 points in a conference cross country championship, joining CBU in 2019, on the way to defending its women’s 6K team title. CBU claimed second place in the 2024 event with 63 points. Southern Utah (97 points), Seattle U (102 points) and Utah Tech (180 points) rounded out the top five finishers in the women’s 6K. In the men’s 8K, CBU picked up a fifth consecutive WAC team championship after tallying 29 points. Southern Utah secured second place with 38 points, followed by Utah Valley with 67 points. Tarleton State (151 points) and Abilene Christian (156 points) comprised the rest of the men’s 8K top five.

Anna Martin from Utah Valley captured the individual women’s 6K win for the Wolverines with a winning time of 19:51.49, earning a second straight all-conference first team certificate. Joining Martin on the all-conference first team was Utah Valley teammates Ari Trimble (second, 20:00.10), Caila Odekirk (third, 20:07.09), Oakley Olson (fourth, 20:22.92), Julie Sumsion (fifth, 20:25.60) and Allie Warner (sixth, 20:27.90), Seattle U's Azaela Groleau (seventh, 20:28.48), CBU’s Yasna Petrova (eighth, 20:32.62) UT Arlington’s Matro Jepkemboi (ninth, 20:39.71) and CBU’s Ava Dyck (10th, 20:42.42).

Mohamed Guled from Utah Valley returned to the all-conference first team and won the first men’s 8K individual championship for the Wolverines since 2019 with a time of 23:07.08. Other members of the all-conference first team were Southern Utah’s Santiago Gaitan (second, 23:16.31), CBU’s Zouhair Redouane (third, 23:20.77), CBU’s Valentin Soca (fourth, 23:21.69), CBU’s Daniel Abdala (fifth, 23:36.21), CBU’s Pedro Marin (sixth, 23:36.25), Southern Utah’s Jacob Peterson (seventh 23:38.44), Southern Utah’s Travis Feeny (eighth, 23:45.96), Southern Utah’s Hayden Harward (ninth, 23:48.68) and Abilene Christian’s Andruw Villa (10th, 23:51.72).
