ARLINGTON, Texas – Abilene Christian’s
Bella Earle and Utah Valley’s
Danja Stafford Collins have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Earle, a senior guard, averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in Abilene Christian’s undefeated opening week. Earle tallied a career-high of 26 points against FIU in ACU’s first win against a Conference USA opponent since November 2015. Earle opened the season with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal in a dominant 95-38 win against Southwest (NM). Over the week, Earle shot .538 from the field and .385 from the 3-point line. Earle’s 22.0 points is the tied for the best average in the WAC after week one.
Stafford Collins, a graduate forward, averaged 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to help Utah Valley start the season off at 2-0. In the season opener win against Kansas City, Stafford Collins finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high of five assists and five steals. She followed that up with her first UVU double-double of 12 points and 11 boards in a road win at Kennesaw State. Stafford Collins leads the conference in the rebounding statistic with her 10.5 boards per game.
