2024-25 WAC WBB Week 2 Release

ABILENE CHRISTIAN AND UTAH VALLEY FINISH WEEK ONE UNDEFEATED
Two WAC teams wrapped up the first week of the 2024-25 season without a loss. Abilene Christian and Utah Valley went two-for-two in the opening week and stand atop of the conference standings. ACU collected wins against Southwest (NM) and FIU, and UVU took wins over Kansas City and Kennesaw State. Grand Canyon and Utah Tech trail the two teams in the standings with 1-1 records while UT Arlington follows with a 1-2 record.

DEFENDING THE HOME COURT
Five WAC squads held one home game in week one and all five teams came away with the home-opener win, leaving the WAC with a perfect 1.000 win percentage at home entering week two. The home-field advantage will be put to the test this week as the WAC has 11 home games between seven teams.

BRITTINGHAM NABS FIRST WAC TRIPLE-DOUBLE OF THE SEASON
UT Arlington’s Avery Brittingham led the Lady Mavs to a big 105-35 homecoming win against Arlington Baptist as the fifth year forward recorded the first triple-double in the conference this year and the third of her career. Brittingham came away with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Brittingham was one of five Lady Mavs to hit at least 10 points in the contest.

WAC IN NCAA RANKINGS
Grand Canyon enters week two as the best defense in the country against the 3-point shot. In the two games played so far, GCU’s opponents have taken 28 shots beyond the arc with only one of those shots making the basket, giving the Lopes the best 3-point defensive percentage in the nation with 3.6%.

Utah Valley flexed its defensive muscles as the Wolverines are fourth in the country in steals per game with 20.5. UVU tallied 23 steals against Kansas City and 18 steals against Kennesaw State. Kylee Mabry leads the team with 10 steals to her name, and this week’s WAC Newcomer of the Week Danja Stafford Collins follows Mabry with six steals.
