2024-25 WAC WBB Week 3 Release

UTAH VALLEY REMAINS LAST WAC TEAM UNDEFEATED
Utah Valley claimed two victories last week against Park University (AZ) and CSU Bakersfield to improve to a record of 4-0, UVU’s best start to a season since 2007-08 as it stands alone as the final undefeated record in the WAC. The Wolverines reached triple digits and scored 100 on Park University as five players recorded double digit scoring performances. Amanda Bercello went 9-for-12 from beyond the arc last week including a perfect 4-for-4 with 14 points against CSU Bakersfield.
 
TARLETON STATE TAKES TWO
Tarleton State collected its first two wins of the season in its first two home games coming against New Orleans and Northwestern State. The Texans have won eight consecutive home openers and remain unbeaten in home openers in the D-I era. It is also the second time in its D-I era that the Texans have held its opponents to under 60 points in three of their first four games. Arieona Rosborough led Tarleton State in scoring with 12.5 points per game and has had three straight games of at least 11 points, one block, and one steal.
 
GRAND CANYON MOUNTS SECOND HALF COMEBACK AGAINST ARIZONA STATE
Grand Canyon picked up the WAC’s first win against a major conference opponent this season with a 70-59 comeback win against Arizona State in the Hall of Fame Series at the Footprint Center. GCU erased a nine-point halftime deficit as this week’s WAC Player and Newcomer of the Week, Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, scored 14 points and drained four 3-pointers in the second half to lead the Lopes to their second straight win against the Sun Devils. The Lopes outscored Arizona State 37-17 in the second half.
 
JD GUSTIN WINS 100TH GAME AS UTAH TECH’S HEAD COACH
Utah Tech’s JD Gustin earned his 100th career victory as the Trailblazer head coach with UTU’s 81-78 win over Weber State. Coach Gustin is currently in his ninth year as Utah Tech’s head coach and will enter his fifth season of WAC-play this season. Gustin’s 2023-24 squad broke the school record in made 3-pointers (327), single game points (116), field goals made/attempted (853/1942), 3-pointers attempted (945), free throw percentage (.736), and fewest turnovers (420). Gustin has built up an overall coaching record of 246-191 in his 16 years of head coaching at Westminster and Utah Tech.
 
TIARRA BROWN MOVES UP THE GCU RANKS
In Grand Canyon’s win over Arizona State, Tiarra Brown scored 14 points which moved her up to fifth all-time in points at GCU with 1,193 points. Brown also moves up to second in points for GCU in the D-1 era. Brown now looks to catch Jennifer Cobb (2002-07) who holds the fourth spot with 1,281 points. Samantha Murphy (2008-11) holds the all-time record for GCU points with 2,147.
