2024 WAC VB Tournament Release
THE 2024 WAC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT IS SET
Seattle U and Abilene Christian clinched the final two spots of the 2024 WAC Volleyball Tournament and the bracket is set heading into this weekend. The field consists of the undefeated conference champion #1 UT Arlington, defending tournament champion #2 Grand Canyon, #3 Utah Valley, #4 Utah Tech, #5 California Baptist, #6 Southern Utah, #7 Seattle U, and #8 Abilene Christian. The eight teams will battle for a WAC Championship Nov. 21-23 at the College Park Center at UT Arlington.
UT ARLINGTON FINISHES CONFERENCE PLAY UNDEFEATED
UT Arlington claimed its 16th conference win in its 16th WAC game with a sweep against Utah Tech. The win marked the first time the Mavericks have gone undefeated in conference play since 1992 (32 years). It was the 11th time in program history where UTA has been undefeated in conference play, but the first time being undefeated with more than 10 matches. The Mavericks finished the regular season 51st in the NCAA women’s volleyball RPI rankings. It was also the second consecutive year that a WAC team has been perfect in conference play.
WAC BLOCK PARTY
The WAC concluded the regular season with three players inside the top 12 in the nation in blocks per set. UVU’s Bella Wooden led the way for the WAC in second with 1.67, UTA’s Paige Reagor was seventh with 1.49, and UTU’s Casidy Fried at 12th with 1.46.
UTAH VALLEY SWEEPS FINAL REGULAR SEASON WEEK
Utah Valley finished its season on a high note by sweeping Tarleton State and Southern Utah in its final two regular season matches. Avery Shewell recorded 19 kills, 13 digs, seven aces, and seven blocks to finish the week with 29.5 points (4.92/set). The Wolverines will see their in-state foe for a second straight match as they will take on the Thunderbirds in the first round of the WAC Tournament.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST ENTERS THE POSTSEASON ON THREE-GAME WINNING STREAK
The Lancers have hit a hot streak at the right time as California Baptist has won its last three matches heading into the conference tournament. In the trio of wins coming against UTU, GCU, and ACU, the Lancers have only lost a total of two sets. After starting the season 1-19, CBU has won six of its last eight and is looking to keep the momentum going into the postseason.
KENNEDI KNUDSEN SETS UTAH TECH KILLS RECORD
In Utah Tech’s regular season finale against UTA, Kennedi Knudsen set the UTU program record for most kills in a single season with 379, breaking the previous record of 376 set by Cami Johnson (2007). Knudsen has registered double-digit kills in 23 of 26 games, with her season-high of 34 kills coming against Utah Valley (11/2).
