ARLINGTON, Texas – Western Athletic Conference (WAC) members posted notable collective increases in the most recent NCAA Division I Graduation Success Rate report that was released on Wednesday.

The student-athlete graduation rate is calculated directly based on the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Graduation Rates Survey, which is the proportion of first-year, full-time student-athletes who entered a school on athletics aid and graduated from that institution within six years. The federal graduation rate does not account for students who transfer from their original college or university and graduate elsewhere, while the NCAA GSR holds colleges accountable for those student-athletes who transfer to their school and does not penalize colleges whose student-athletes leave the institution in good academic standing.

A total of 79 WAC athletics programs met the 90 percent benchmark and 44 WAC programs achieved perfect 100 GSR scores in the 2017 cohort year, led by Seattle University (9), Abilene Christian University (8), and Grand Canyon University (6) who each had more than five institutional programs scoring 100. Women’s golf (8) was the most represented WAC sport with a 100 GSR score in the 2017 cohort, with other notables including women’s tennis (5), men’s golf (4), women’s basketball (4), women’s swimming and diving (4), men’s basketball (3), men’s swimming and diving (3), softball (3) and women’s soccer (3).

WAC members posted a combined NCAA GSR score of 87 percent in all sports, which continued a year-over-year increase conference-wide across the membership during the last four reporting periods dating back to 2021. The WAC’s gender-specific sport GSR scores of 84 percent in men’s sports and 91 percent in women’s sports were both in line with the most recent NCAA benchmarks. The WAC also logged a year-over-year increase in its federal graduation rate numbers during that same reporting period.

Highlighting the single year 2024 NCAA GSR individual sport figures among WAC members was a 100 percent score in the sport of men’s basketball, with the WAC being one of only two conferences in DI men’s basketball to boast a GSR of 100 percent in the most recent single year report. WAC baseball programs also enjoyed a sizeable year-over-year increase in NCAA GSR to post a sport-specific figure of 90 percent for the most recent year.
