ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Jamir Simpson has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Simpson, a senior guard/forward, led the WAC by averaging 23.0 points per game while shooting an even 50 percent from the floor in a 2-1 week, chipping in 4.0 rebounds per contest. Simpson hit 10-of-18 field goals and went 7-of-9 from the free-throw line for a game-high 28 points in a narrow loss at Loyola Chicago on Nov. 19. Simpson continued the week with 20 points, five rebounds and two steals in a win at San Diego on Nov. 22 and 21 points and four boards the following day to beat Idaho in San Diego.
