2024-25 WAC Men's Basketball Release - Week 6

GRAND CANYON RUNS WINNING STREAK TO FOUR STRAIGHT

Grand Canyon continued its recent streak of form with a pair of victories during a homestand to run its active win surge to four straight. The Lopes downed Hawaii 78-72 on Dec. 3 before racing past Life Pacific 100-52 on Dec. 7 at Global Credit Union Arena. Tyon Grant-Foster averaged 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the most recent GCU week, highlighted by 23 points, six rebounds, three blocked shots and four steals in the win over Hawaii.

SOUTHERN UTAH REMAINS UNBEATEN AT HOME THUS FAR IN THE 2024-25 SEASON
Southern Utah ran its record in true home games this season to 6-0 with a 90-55 win over Park University on Dec. 3 at the America First Event Center in Cedar City. The Thunderbirds remain one of two WAC programs yet to suffer a loss at home as of Dec. 10, along with Utah Valley (2-0). Southern Utah shot a cumulative 47.6 percent from the floor in its first six home games, outscoring the opposition by a cumulative 87.7 to 64.8 points per game average. The Thunderbirds also have owned the glass on their home floor, pulling down 45.3 rebounds per game to the 36.8 rebounds per contest for the opposition in true home games.

MADDEN CLAIMS WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK DURING ACU RUN
Abilene Christian guard Hunter Jack Madden claimed WAC Player of the Week honors on Dec. 9 after ACU picked up a second consecutive road victory in a 78-70 decision at New Mexico State on Dec. 4. Madden scored a game-high 24 points, including 21 in the second half, to lead the way for the Wildcats. Madden hit five shots from 3-point range and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals for ACU in the win at NM State.

MONCRIEFFE REMAINS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE FOR SEATTLE U
Seattle U forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe captured WAC Newcomer of the Week for the first time with averages of 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last week for the Redhawks, highlighted by a 15-point, 10-rebound, four-assist performance in a 91-74 win over Portland State on Dec. 4. The double-double was the conference leading fifth of the season for Moncrieffe, who was the lone WAC player averaging double figures in both scoring (13.9 points per game) and rebounding (10.3 rebounds per game) overall this season as of Dec. 10.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS AT THE LINE
Three separate WAC teams checked in as part of the national top 50 in free throws made per game in NCAA Division I as of the latest men’s basketball statistics report that was generated on Dec. 9. Grand Canyon ranked seventh nationally with 20.5 shots per game made at the charity stripe, while Seattle U ranked 19th with 19.2 free throws made per contest. Abilene Christian has hit 17.3 free throws per game thus far this season to rank 49th nationally.
