ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Laura Erikstrup and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 15.
 
Erikstrup, a graduate forward, had a well-rounded performance in Grand Canyon’s victory over Westcliff as she logged 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks. Erikstrup shot 9-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the charity line. Erikstrup currently holds the best field goal percentage in the WAC at 55.0 percent (55-of-100).
 
Durazo-Frescas, a senior transfer guard, continued her dominance from beyond the arc as she tallied a season-high 23 points and made seven buckets from 3-point range, one shy of tying the GCU single-game record. Durazo-Frescas shot 61.0 percent from the field and added three assists and two rebounds to her night. Durazo-Frescas leads the WAC in 3-point percentage at 47.3 percent (35-of-74) and is tied for ninth for the most made 3’s in the country.
