GRAND CANYON SWEEPS WEEKLY HONORS AS LOPES WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT
Grand Canyon caps off its sixth consecutive victory with a dominating 90-31 win over Westcliff. The 31 points allowed is the least amount of points given up by the Lopes in their D-I era. GCU's strong offensive performance led to a sweep in this week's WAC Athletes of the Week honors.
Laura Erikstrup was named WAC Player of the Week after finishing two points shy of a career high with 22 points along with six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Alyssa Durazo-Frescas earned her second Newcomer of the Week award this year following another strong showing from beyond the arc. Durazo-Frescas recorded 23 points with seven 3-pointers, one shy of the GCU single-game record. GCU improved its home record to 6-0 and has 13 home games left to beat its single-season home wins record of 13 that was set last season. The Lopes were ranked 87th in the NET rankings and ninth in the latest Mid-Major Poll.
ANAIYAH TU’UA PERFORMS LAST SECOND HEROICS FOR CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
California Baptist collected its second win of the season against CSUN 73-71 thanks to a last second game-winning shot from
Anaiyah Tu'ua. Tu'ua, a former Matador, got her revenge on her former team as she banked a fade away jumper with less than a second remaining on the clock to halt CSUN's late game rally and win the game for the Lancers. Tu'ua notched 19 points in the match along with seven assists, a rebound and a steal.
Nhug Bosch Duran posted a career-high 20 points with a season-best five 3-pointers against CSUN.
FAITH ACKER SETS TARLETON STATE RECORD VERSUS RANKED NEBRASKA
Tarleton State took on its second ranked opponent of the season last week as the Texans traveled to No. 24 Nebraska. Sophomore center
Faith Acker logged her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds against the Huskers, making her the first Texan to record at least 10 points and 10 rebounds against a nationally ranked opponent in the D-I era. Her 11 boards also set a D-I record for rebounds against a major conference opponent. The Texans were able to hold Nebraska to a season-low 29.8 percent shooting.
UTAH TECH NATIONALLY RANKED IN 3-POINT FIELD GOALS
As of Dec. 17, Utah Tech is ranked sixth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game with 10.5, 2.5 behind the nation leader Tennessee. The Trailblazers are also second in the country in 3-point attempts per game with 34.3. Redshirt senior forward
Emily Isaacson leads the Trailblazers in this category with 25 shots made beyond the arc with a 3-point percentage of 39.7. UTU's
Chardonnay Hartley is nationally ranked in the assists category as she ranks fourth in the country in total assists (74) and eighth in assists per game (6.7).
