GRAND CANYON SWEEPS ITS THANKSGIVING CLASSIC
Grand Canyon is coming off a three-game winning streak, winning all three games in the span of four days. The Lopes took wins over Liberty, UC Santa Barbara, and East Texas A&M as the Lopes swept their Talking Stick Resort Thanksgiving Classic with an average victory margin of 26.3 points. On Saturday against East Texas A&M, GCU set a program field goal percentage record of 63.2% and tallied two 30-point quarters for the first time since collegiate women’s basketball converted to four quarters in 2015. In the NCAA’s first release of the women’s basketball NET rankings, Grand Canyon checked in at 78th.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN WINS FIU THANKSGIVING CLASSIC TOURNAMENT
Abilene Christian collected its third-straight road win with an 87-67 victory over Florida International in the FIU Thanksgiving Classic Championship game. The Wildcats defeated Sacramento State 75-53 to advance to the title game. This was ACU’s second win over FIU this season, as the Wildcats took down the Panthers 76-73 earlier in the year as part of the WAC-CUSA Challenge. This week’s WAC Player of the Week,
Payton Hull, was named the tournament’s MVP and
Bella Earle earned an All-Tournament Team spot.
TRINITY SAN ANTONIO TIES WAC ASSISTS RECORD
The 2024-25 WAC Preseason Player of the Year
Trinity San Antonio set a GCU record of 17 assists in the Lopes’ 79-50 victory over Liberty. The 17 assists also tied the WAC’s single-game assist record, last reached by California Baptist’s Ane Olaeta in 2021-22. San Antonio now holds the most single-game assists in the nation this season, four more than the three players in second who tallied 13 assists. San Antonio finished the match with 21 points, 17 assists, six steals, and four rebounds.
TARLETON STATE’S ARIEONA ROSBOROUGH NAMED TO FLEUR-DE-LIS ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Tarleton State finished its Feast Week road trip 2-1 with a 1-1 record in the 2024 Big Easy Classic.
Arieona Rosborough was named to the Fleur-de-lis All-Tournament Team following a 20-point performance against Nicholls along with seven rebounds and a steal. Rosborough led the Texan defense to hold Delaware to just 40 points after holding Houston Christian to 42 points. It was the first time in their D-I era the Texans held back-to-back opponents to under 45 points.
