2024 WAC SB Release - Week Two

GCU, SOUTHERN UTAH ON TOP OF WAC STANDINGS

Grand Canyon and Southern Utah were the only two teams to cap the first week of the 2024 season with 4-1 records. Seattle U was second in the WAC standings with a 3-2 mark and California Baptist followed with a 3-3 start.

FRESHMAN PHENOM
In her freshman debut for the Thunderbirds, Emily Delgado helped lead Southern Utah to a 4-1 weekend for the first time since 2004. She pitched 13.2 innings last weekend, posting a 0.00 ERA and striking out 12 while only allowing four hits. Delgado earned a win with a complete game shutout of UIC on Sunday morning with six punchouts and earned a save in game one. The shutout victory was the first for the T-Birds since the 2021 season.

WHAT A WAY TO START THE SEASON
Grand Canyon started its season off right with a 5-2 win over Wisconsin on Feb. 9. Seven players picked up a hit, while pitchers Hailey Hudson and Meghan Golden shut out the Badgers over the final five innings to secure the win.

WATCH IT FLY
Southern Utah’s Miranda Ariyana, Utah Tech’s Carly Eldredge, UT Arlington’s Lindsey Franklin and Grand Canyon’s Lovey Kepa’a all lead the WAC in home runs with two each after opening weekend. Ariyana hit one home run against Pacific and then one against Colorado State. Eldredge slugged one each against Arizona and Northern Colorado. Franklin smacked both home runs in UT Arlington’s 14-8 win over Southern. Kepa’a scored one against Weber State and then against St. Thomas.
