PHARR, Texas – The 2024 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up day one with the women’s 1-meter dive, men’s 3-meter dive, men’s and women’s 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard free medley. The four-day meet at the Pharr Natatorium will conclude on Saturday.

UNLV leads on the men’s side, while Northern Arizona leads for the women in three events scored. UNLV’s men posted 152 points, ahead of California Baptist with 84 points and Northern Colorado is in third with 82. Northern Arizona’s women recorded 124 points, California Baptist is close behind in second with 117 points, while Grand Canyon is slotted in at third with 98 points.

UNLV’s Wikus Potgieter, Adnan Beji, George Ratiu and Bryson Huey won the men’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:24.47. Grand Canyon placed second with a time of 1:25.60, while Wyoming finished third (1:26.77).

Grand Canyon’s Briana Rittenbach, Raphaela Nakashima, Paula Martinez and Maria Brunlehner won the women’s 200-yard medley relay, as the Lopes broke their own conference meet record from last year’s championship with a time of 1:38.86. California Baptist took second with a 1:39.67 mark. Northern Colorado placed third with a time of 1:40.05.
 
Northern Arizona swept the women’s 1-meter diving event. Victoria Knapp, a senior, took first place for the fourth consecutive year with a final score of 301.50, becoming the first four-time champion in the event. Senior Maegan Jensen placed second with a final score of 298.30 and Reaney Preston claimed third with 290.55 points.

UNLV’s Cameron Castro, Colby Raffel, Cooper Kiel and Dominik Bujak won the men’s 800-yard freestyle medley with a time of 6:24.55. Wyoming took second with a 6:24.69 mark. Grand Canyon placed third with a time of 6:24.95.

Northern Arizona’s Helena Robla, Bena Koehn, Madison Rey and Annie Carlton won the women’s 800-yard medley with a time of 7:13.38. Northern Colorado placed second with a time of 7:16.69, while New Mexico State took third with a 7:17.62 mark.
 
In the men’s 3-meter dive, California Baptist’s sophomore Gael Jiminez broke his own meet record to place first for the second-straight year with a final score of 404.35. California Baptist’s freshman Mario De Valle finished second with a final score of 396.65. UNLV’s freshman Alex Vazquez earned third place with a final mark of 368.25.
 
The 2024 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships resume Thursday with the men’s 1-meter dive, 500 free (M/W), 200 IM (M/W) and 50 free (M/W) prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT. The women’s 3-meter dive prelim will begin at 1:15 p.m. CT. Finals for these events along with the 200-yard free medley (M/W) will commence at 6:00 p.m. CT.
