GRAND CANYON TAKES WAC RÉSUMÉ SEEDING SYSTEM LEAD
In the latest WAC Résumé Seeding System rankings compiled on Feb. 4, Grand Canyon took the lead with 4.54 points and remained at the top of the conference standings at 11-1 (19-4 overall). California Baptist (4.40) and Stephen F. Austin (2.09) are the only other teams with a positive point value. Utah Tech (-1.17) and UT Arlington (-1.29) rounded out the top five teams in the most recent seeding system rankings.

Chloe Webb picked up her fourth WAC Player of the Week honor this season as she recorded her sixth double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds in a 86-77 road win over Seattle U. Webb leads the WAC in scoring average with 20.8 points per game and ranks 16th in the nation. She is one of two WAC players with multiple 30-point games this season.
GOOD NEWS, WAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WILL BE ON TV!
The final game of the WAC women’s basketball championship will be shown live on ESPNU at 10:30 a.m. PT on March 16. The 2024 women’s championship contest will mark the first WAC women’s title game to be carried live on linear TV since 2016.

WAC Preseason Player of the Year
Breaunna Gillen from Utah Tech had a dominant weekend as she propelled the Trailblazers to two road wins over UTRGV and UT Arlington. She averaged 16.5 points on an even 50.0 percent shooting (13-26), including a 75.0 percent (6-13) clip from the perimeter. She also averaged 8.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.0 steal in her two starts. Gillen opened the trip with 19 points on a sizzling 8-12 shooting, including a 3-3 effort from the 3-point line, in Utah Tech’s win at UTRGV. Then in the Blazers’ come-from-behind win at UT Arlington on Saturday, Gillen posted her second triple-double of the season, and third of her career, with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. She also became only the sixth player currently in the NCAA Division I ranks (second player in the WAC) with multiple triple-doubles this season.

Gia Adams earned WAC Newcomer of the Week honors after averaging 13.0 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals last week. She recorded 14 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals against Southern Utah. Adams then tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal against Utah Tech.

Miannah Little came off the bench last weekend and averaged 14.5 points on 9-of-18 (.500) shooting, including 3-of-4 from distance, plus 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Little scored a career-high 23 points against Abilene Christian (6-11 FG, 3-4 3PT). Little’s 23 points off the bench marked the most by a Texan this season, surpassing
Andjela Bigovic’s 22 at Southern Utah on Feb. 3. Her 23 points are the most by a Texan reserve since
Elise Turrubiates poured in 25 against UT Arlington on Jan. 14, 2023. She recorded the most points scored in a game off the bench by a WAC player this week, and the third-most points scored in a game overall by a WAC player for the week, only behind California Baptist’s
Chloe Webb (33) and Utah Tech’s
Maddie Warren (25).
BLAZING A TRAIL
After maintaining fifth place in the WAC Résumé Seeding System rankings during the month of January, Utah Tech’s four-game winning streak have moved the Trailblazers into fourth with -1.17 points. Utah Tech recently captured wins over Abilene Christian (78-69), Tarleton State (75-48), UTRGV (91-55) and UT Arlington (72-60). The Trailblazers are lights out from the 3-point line this season, leading the WAC in 3-point percentage with .357 (36th nationally). In the latest NCAA Division I national statistics report on Feb. 6, Utah Tech ranked fourth in 3-point attempts per game with 29.5. The ‘Blazers have three players ranked in the nation in 3-point percentage,
Maggie McCord (41.7) ranked 30th,

Maddie Warren is slotted at 49th (40.0).
