LAS VEGAS – The 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament began on Wednesday at the Orleans Arena. No. 5 UT Arlington and No. 7 Tarleton State advanced to the quarterfinal round that will take place on Thursday, March 14.
No. 5 UT Arlington will compete in a showdown against No. 4 Utah Tech at 12 p.m. PT. No. 7 Tarleton State takes on No. 3 Stephen F. Austin at 2:30 p.m. PT for the second quarterfinal match of the day.
No. 5 UT Arlington 67, No. 8 Southern Utah 53 | Box Score
No. 5 UT Arlington defeated No. 8 Southern Utah, 67-53 in the first round of the WAC Tournament. The Mavs move on to 16-15 overall, while the Thunderbirds conclude the 2023-24 season at 8-22.
Senior forward Avery Brittingham led UT Arlington notching her 10th double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Gia Adams recorded 19 points and three rebounds. Sophomore guard Nya Threatt chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. The Mavs held Southern Utah to just two 3-pointers overall.
The Thunderbirds were led by graduate student guard Alexa Lord, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman forward Ava Uhrich tallied 11 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Shiho Isono chipped in with nine points.
No. 7 Tarleton State 54, No. 6 Abilene Christian 41 | Box Score
No. 7 Tarleton State took down No.6 Abilene Christian, 54-41 as the Texans advanced to the quarterfinal round in its first ever WAC Tournament appearance. Tarleton State held Abilene Christian to a 25.5 field goal percentage. The Wildcats ended their season with an overall record of 14-16.
Junior guard Jakoriah Long led the charge for the Texans recording 20 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Miannah Little added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds. Freshman center Faith Acker and junior forward Elise Turrubiates chipped in eight points respectively.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Bella Earle and redshirt sophomore forward Addison Martin who recorded 10 points respectively. Earle had a near double-double with seven rebounds, while Martin tallied four rebounds. Junior guard Zoe Jackson chipped in eight points and three rebounds.
