No. 4 Seattle U, No 3 UT Arlington Roll Into The Semifinal Round Of The 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

LAS VEGAS – Offense was the name of the game on day two of the 2024 Hercules Tires Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday evening at the Orleans Arena.

No. 4 Seattle U was the first team to move out of the quarterfinal round with an 81-57 win against No. 8 California Baptist to begin the day. The Redhawks advance to the first semifinal against No. 1 Grand Canyon on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
 
In the nightcap, No. 3 UT Arlington broke the tournament single-game scoring record enroute to a 109-78 victory against No. 6 Stephen F. Austin. The Mavs collide with No. 2 Tarleton State on Friday at 8:30 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
 
Both semifinal games will also air nationally on SiriusXM Radio channel 380 (online 970).

Seattle U snapped a three-game losing streak with an emphatic win in the quarterfinal round. The Redhawks shot 54.4 percent from the floor and 52.2 percent from beyond the arc to burn up the twine in the victory. A total of 10 Seattle U players finished the contest in the scoring column.
 
Cameron Tyson scored a game-high 18 points with a 7-of-12 performance and finished 4-of-7 from 3-point range. John Christofilis poured in 17 points and Alex Schumacher added eight points and nine assists.
 
Yvan Ouedraogo posted 15 points and five rebounds for CBU, while Blondeau Tchoukuiegno chipped in 11 points and seven assists.

No. 3 UT Arlington 109, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin 78 (Box Score)
UT Arlington established a tournament record with 109 points and made 3-pointers in the win, hitting 19-of-40 3-point attempts during the contest to cruise to the semifinal round. The Mavs also held a dominant edge in rebounding by a 40-21 margin.
 
Phillip Russell exploded in his first WAC Tournament game, totaling 30 points and four assists in just 19 minutes of game time. DaJuan Gordon (17 points), Makaih Williams (16 points) and Dwayne Koroma (11 points) joined Russell in double figures.
 
Latrell Jossell scored a team-high 19 points to lead the way for Stephen F. Austin. Chrishawn Christmas contributed 18 points and three rebounds for Lumberjacks in defeat.
