ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s
Symoria Adkins and Grand Canyon’s
Taryn Burkett have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the meet week ending on Sunday, Mar. 24.
Adkins (So.) made her outdoor debut at the Texas A&M Invite and quickly found herself atop of the conference charts, posting faster times than competitors from TCU, Texas A&M, UTSA, and North Texas. Adkins finished second in the invitational’s 200m with a time of 23.82, placing first in the WAC and 70
th in the country. Adkins also ran in the 100m hurdles where she posted a second-place finish and a conference-best time of 13.80. Adkins cracked the 100m hurdles national rankings, sliding in at 69
th.
Burkett (Jr.) goes back-to-back to start off the women’s outdoor field weekly awards, as she bested her triple jump mark from last week (12.78m) with this week’s jump of 12.81m (42-0.5) in the 2024 Willie Williams Classic. This mark stands alone at the top of the WAC rankings and checks in at 12
th in the country.
