2024 WAC Softball Release - Week Five 

GCU’S UNBEATEN 5-0 WEEKEND LEAVES THEM ON TOP OF WAC STANDINGS 

Grand Canyon stands alone at the top of the WAC standings with an overall record of 16-4. The Lopes went 5-0 last week against Montana, Pacific, New Mexico and Toledo (twice). Ramsay Lopez earned WAC Player of the Week after she hit her first-career grand slam in a 13-6 win over Toledo on Saturday. Lopez recorded a .571 batting average, eight hits, three home runs, 13 RBIs, 1.214 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage. 

JESS WITH THE MESS  
UT Arlington’s Jessica Adams claimed WAC Pitcher of the Week after she threw the second perfect game in program history, becoming the first to ever do it in a full seven-inning contest. She also marked UT Arlington’s eighth no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Incarnate Word. The junior finished with a low 1.00 ERA with two wins (TAMU-CC on Feb. 29, UIW on Mar. 3). Adams tossed 10 strikeouts, limiting opponents to a .187 batting average.

DOWN GOES THE BADGERS 
In Utah Tech’s double header against Wisconsin, the Trailblazers secured the upset win during game one. In the seventh inning, Utah Tech needed a run to tie and two to win the game. With two on base and two outs, a RBI single by Oaklee Trapp led to a Rachel Campbell score, leaving Sadie Gardner on third. Laura Lockard’s walk-off single put the Trailblazers up 6-5 to win the game. 
 
GAMES ON TAP 
Action packed week for WAC teams as UT Arlington takes on No. 1 Texas on March 6. Grand Canyon will compete against receiving votes San Diego State on March 8. SFA takes on (RV) Louisiana on March 9 and 10. Tarleton State gears up for a double-header against No. 2 Oklahoma on March 12.
