ARLINGTON, Texas – UTRGV’s Armani Raygoza and Grand Canyon’s Connor Mattison have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 31.

Raygoza, a redshirt freshman infielder, led the conference with 10 base hits last week, batting .556 with four extra base hits (two home runs), eight RBI, a 1.000 slugging percentage and three runs scored for UTRGV in a 2-2 week that included a series win at Utah Tech. Raygoza went 4-for-5 with a game-tying ninth inning home run and four RBI in a 13-11 victory over Utah Tech on March 28 and followed up with three hits, including a three-run home run, to aid the Vaqueros in a 14-5 triumph on March 29 to lock up the series.

Mattison, a freshman right-handed pitcher, earned a number of national pitcher of the week accolades after throwing the first GCU no-hitter since 1982 by going the distance in a 4-0 win over Sacramento State on March 29. Mattison issued two walks and hit two batters while striking out 10 Hornets on 125 pitches without allowing a base hit. Mattison, who improved to 4-1 on the season, spun the 28th all-time WAC no-hitter and just the ninth by a conference pitcher since the 1990 season.
