2024 WAC Baseball Release - Week 10

GCU, CBU TIED FOR THE WAC LEAD

Grand Canyon and California Baptist enter the next weekend of conference play in a tie for first place at the top of the WAC with matching 11-4 (.714) records in league games as of April 18. Abilene Christian and Utah Valley were both just off the pace with identical 10-5 (.667) marks.

YOU HAVE JUST BEEN ‘WAC-KED’
In midweek nonconference play, WAC teams earned three wins against major conference opponents. On April 16, Abilene Christian defeated TCU 8-3 in Abilene, UTRGV blasted Texas 17-9 in Austin and Grand Canyon outlasted Arizona 5-4 in Phoenix.

CBU PITCHING STAFF DOES NOT ALLOW A SINGLE RUN ALL WEEKEND
California Baptist enjoyed a stellar showing on the mound during its series against Stephen F. Austin last weekend, posting three straight shutouts in Riverside to claim the series sweep. Freshman right-hander Lukas Pirko earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors representing the staff after the historic achievement, the first complete series shutout for the Lancers at the Division I level. Pirko kicked the weekend off with six innings of two-hit baseball on April 12, allowing one walk and only one baserunner to reach second base with four strikeouts on 74 pitches.

STEWART THROWS A GEM FOR SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State junior right-handed pitcher Tyler Stewart spun a masterpiece for the Hornets during a 9-1 win at Seattle U on April 13 on the way to a series sweep. Stewart carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and ultimately allowed two hits over eight innings, hitting two batters while striking out five on 92 pitches.

LADUSAU WAS HARD TO STOP FOR ACU
Abilene Christian senior outfielder Miller Ladusau was named WAC Player of the Week on April 15 after batting .615 with five extra-base hits (four doubles), five RBIs, a 1.154 slugging percentage and six runs in four starts against Texas Tech and UC Davis last week. Ladusau enjoyed multi-hit outings in each of his final three starts of the weekend.
