2024 WAC Softball Release - Week Eleven 

GCU EXTENDS WAC STANDINGS LEAD    

After the fifth week of conference play, Grand Canyon is on a 11-game winning streak after a sweep of Tarleton State last week to keep the Lopes on top of the WAC standings. California Baptist is in second place with a 10-5 record. Seattle U is in third at 10-7, while Utah Valley is in fourth at 9-7. UT Arlington rounds out the top five with a WAC record of 8-8. 

DOUBLED DOWN 
In the latest NCAA Division I national statistics report on April 17, multiple WAC squads rank in the top 50 in doubles per game. Abilene Christian (1.90) ranked No. 3 in the nation in doubles per game. Tarleton State tied for No. 14 with 1.74, Grand Canyon slotted in at No. 21 (1.67) and California Baptist ranked No. 24 (1.61). In total amount of doubles, Tarleton State tied for No. 3 with 80, Grand Canyon ranked No. 6 (77), Abilene Christian tied for No. 13 (73) and California Baptist is tied for No. 17 (71).

BIG TIME WIN FOR THE MAVS IN WACO
UT Arlington earned a 4-3 win over power five opponent Baylor on Apr. 16 in comeback fashion. The Mavs were offensively led by Marley Neises (2-4, 1 RBI) and Nikki Donahue (2-3, 1 RBI). At the bottom of the third, it remained a 3-2 ball game with Baylor ahead until a RBI-double from Neises tied it up. Kaylee Cavazos had a clutch RBI-single up the middle which put the Mavs on top 4-3. Gracie Bumpurs started for the Mavs in the circle as she only allowed three earned runs off five hits across 3.1 innings of work. Emilie Hoelscher closed the game out, earning her first win of the season only giving up three hits.

GCU DOWNS ARIZONA STATE AT HOME
Grand Canyon keeps adding to their WACked list with its 5-4 win over Arizona State on Apr. 16. The Lopes had three players with multi-hit games in Ashley Trierweiler (2-3, 2 runs), Kayla Rodgers (2-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Savannah Groshong-Kirk (2-3). Hailey Hudson earned her 11th victory by limiting the Sun Devils to two earned runs in five relief innings.
