PAYSON, Ariz. – Seattle U took home the 2024 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Golf Championship after an amazing 18-hole third round on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at The Rim Golf Club. The Redhawks shot a round leading 10-over-par 294 to win by two strokes at 40-over 892 (304-294-294).
Seattle U captured its first outright conference title after the Redhawks tied for first in 2019 but ultimately fell to New Mexico State in the playoff round. Abilene Christian placed second at 42-over par, 894 (298-293-303). Grand Canyon finished third at 895 (302-294-299, +43). California Baptist took fourth place at 896 (299-300-297, +44). Tarleton State slotted in fifth place at 906 (311-296-299, +54).
Abilene Christian’s Ryann Honea took the tournament’s individual title after a 4-over par 217 (70-72-75) finish. Grand Canyon’s Becca Tschetter (76-72-72) and Tarleton State’s Sofia Rodriguez (74-73-73) tied for second place at 7-over 220. California Baptist’s Pusanisa Ekkantrong claimed fourth place at 221 (74-73-74, +8). GCU’s Leighton Shosted placed fifth at 10-over par 228 (75-72-76).
The Redhawks and Honea now await the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Selection Show on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 1 p.m. CT on The Golf Channel, where they will learn where they will play in the regionals, May 6-8. The NCAA championship finals is set to begin May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California.
