2024 WAC Men's Golf Championship Final Results

PAYSON, Ariz.
– Defending champion Grand Canyon found itself in familiar territory during the final round of the 2024 WAC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday. With the Lopes one stroke ahead of California Baptist and UTRGV at the 54th hole, Nicky Kling calmly rolled in a 10-foot par putt to secure the title defense for GCU on a beautiful day at the Golf Club at Chapparal Pines.

Grand Canyon (292-295-289=876, +12) became the first WAC team to successfully defend a men’s golf conference championship since Kansas City in 2018-19. The Lopes began the day one shot behind Tarleton State and battled into the lead thanks to a strong performance from Kling, who was the solo runner-up with rounds of 70-72-69 to finish at 5-under-par 211. Tommaso Zorzetto shared seventh place at 2-over 218 (76-70-72), while Gavin O’Neill (T-14, 70-77-74, 221) and Matthew Pennington (T-39, 77-76-78, 231) rounded out the official GCU finishers. Josh McCabe contributed a key 2-over-par 74 on Sunday as a substitute.

UTRGV closed with the round of the tournament, shooting a team 2-under-par score of 286 to tie for second at 13-over-par 877 (302-289-286). Jaiver Neira claimed outright fourth place with an even par 216 (73-72-71). California Baptist joined UTRGV as co-runner-up at 877 (300-288-289), thanks to 10th-place showings from Luke Bartram (72-71-76) and Kurtis Rodriguez (78-71-70) at 3-over 219.

Seattle U’s Kevin Li became the first WAC freshman since UTRGV’s Nicolas Platret in 2015 to capture tournament individual medalist honors, firing rounds of 69-72-69 to best Kling by one stroke at 6-under-par 210. Li was the only player in the field with multiple rounds in the 60s, and along with Kling one of just two players to card multiple rounds under par. UT Arlington’s Daniel Cronje, the tournament's 36-hole leader, finished in solo third place at 3-under-par 213 following rounds of 68-72-73.
